Summer 2007 Academy
The Ultimate Developmental Program

ABOUT DOYLE ACADEMY: Our program is held at the Detroit Tigers Spring Training Facility (Tigertown), Lakeland, Florida. We are located in central Florida between Tampa and Orlando, home of Mickey. In addition to the five fields and batting cages, students will also utilize the minor league clubhouse where they will be provided their own locker.

Full-Time students are housed at the Dorm located adjacent to the complex. Meals are catered and served at the complex. Lunch is served at the clubhouse each day for Full and Commuter students.

Students are issued game uniforms, hats, and workout clothes which will be laundered by the clubhouse attendant each day. Upon enrollment you will received a list of recommended clothing to bring.

Airport pickup and drop-off is provided free of charge for Full Time Academy participants.

ACADEMY CONTENT INCLUDES:

Physical
  • Comprehensive evaluation of your skills, strength, endurance, speed, power, agility, bat speed, throwing velocity, aerobic capacity, body composition
  • Counseling sessions with instructor to set up long-term and short-term goals regarding each of the above. Implementation begins immediately.
  • Step-by-step planned program to meet daily goals in baseball skills of hitting, fielding, throwing, situational and positional play.
  • Team practices are held regularly throughout the Academy to enhance performance during the games.

Mental
  • Newly learned skills must be continuously reinforced to become effective habits. All participants must complete daily exercises in their Journal. Daily workouts and food intake are recorded, as are game and practice performances, academic and team-building sessions, chapel meetings, etc.
  • The Journal will also serve as a valuable reference tool for students to take home upon completion of the Academy program.
  • Classroom sessions will include study skills, note-taking, test-taking, listening skills and classroom participation.

Emotional
  • Handling success and failure is very important to future performance. Successful players build upon their successes and learn from their failures. Doyle Academy offers daily opportunities to instill and develop a strong approach to dealing with success and failure.
  • Training the athlete's mind to work hand-in-hand with the body is vital to achieving peak performance. The Academy training program focuses on the athlete's mental approach in pre-game preparation, game execution, post-game performance review, individual workouts, and physical conditioning.
  • Baseball is a game of strong emotions. Players are taught how to channel their energy into a positive mindset to sustain maximum performance throughout any competition.

Spiritual
  • The ability to lead and contribute to a team is innate within every individual.
  • A variety of Academy activities provide players the opportunity to learn and exercise leadership and teamwork skills.
  • The Outdoor Challenge Course (Venture) offers a variety of individual and team challenges including: ropes course, team balance platform, team web, team bridge.
  • Daily non-denomination Chapel sessions provide participants with motivation, inspiration and insight to help them make positive, thoughtful decisions in all aspects of life. Chapel sessions focus on faith, authority, family, friendship, inner strength, integrity, morals and ethics, choices and consequences.
