Umpire Code of Conduct & Expectations

The following Code of Conduct must be followed by all umpires at all times when on the fields. A copy of this

shall be signed by all umpires and returned to Eureka Sports Association prior to the start of the season.

Code of Conduct:

ï'· Each umpire will adhere to the expectations laid out below by the Eureka Sports Association.

ï'· Each umpire will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support of all players,

coaches, parents, fellow umpires and ESA board members at all times.

ï'· Each umpire will ensure that they are knowledgeable, to the best of their abilities, of the rules of

baseball and softball in accordance with St. Louis County Sports Association and apply those rules fairly

to all participants, teams and coaches.

ï'· Each umpire will give maximum effort in each game he/she works, seeing to apply the rules fairly,

hustle to get himself/herself in best position to make calls, and making calls clearly with both their

hands and their voices.

ï'· Each umpire will not allow personal friendships and associations to influence their decision during a

contest.

ï'· Neither umpire will leave the game after its completion until the teams have shaken hands and

coaches have signed score cards.

ï'· Each umpire will remember that youth sports provide an opportunity for children to learn and have fun

while placing the safety of the youth above all else.

Expectations of umpires:

ï'· Each umpire will arrive at the field and check in with the UmpireInChief 15 minutes prior the

scheduled start time of the game.

ï'· Each umpire will be responsible for completing the game card, obtaining coaches signature and

returning the completed game card to the box in the concession stand. Payment for service will be

based on the completed game cards.

ï'· Each umpire will wear the complete ESA umpire attire for each game. Attire includes: ESA Blue Umpire

Shirt, khaki or grey shorts/pants, ESA hat (for the base umpire), and tennis shoes or baseball cleats. A

jacket is allowed during cold weather. (There will be NO cowboy hats, jeans, jean shorts, boots, or

other inappropriate attire allowed on the field or around the field while wearing an ESA uniform.)

ï'· Each umpire will not drink alcoholic beverages, smoke, chew tobacco or engage in any illegal activity

while on duty. This is a ZERO Tolerance Policy. One incident will immediately remove the umpire from

the umpire pool.

ï'· Each umpire, age 18 years and older, will be required to pass a criminal background check to work with

children in the program.

ï'· Each umpire will be provided by ESA with a clicker/counter and protective gear. These items must be

obtained from the UmpireInChief prior to the start time of the scheduled game and returned upon

completion of the game.

ï'· A minimum of 24 hours notification must be given to the UmpireInChief if an umpire is unable to

cover a scheduled game. Exceptions will only be made for emergency situations. First offense will

result in the loss of a scheduled game. Second offense of this will result from the umpire being

removed from the umpire pool.

ï'· Each umpire will be required to attend all umpire training provided by Eureka Sports Association

regardless of level of experiences.

ï'· Each umpire will provide a $25.00 deposit for the umpire shirt which will be returned upon receipt of

the shirt at the end of the season.

ï'· The UmpireInChief will monitor each umpire for adherence to the rules of the game and provide

supervision and training opportunities throughout the season.

ï'· Termination of services can be done by ESA at any time for offensive behavior.

I have read the Code of Conduct and Expectations of Contracted Umpires and agree to all terms.
