Florida Revolution was formed as the South Hillsborough Soccer League in 1979. For the beginning of the 1979-1980 season the league consisted of 6 teams: 1 team in each age group beginning with U-8 through U-19 for a total of 150 players. We were a traveling league back then. We traveled east to Brandon, Antioch, Dover and Turkey Creek. We traveled north to Temple Terrace and Lake Padgett; and west to Forest Hills, Plantation, Town N Country, and Carrollwood. We also traveled to GYSL-Pinellas County, and to Interbay in the South. We started our first season without any referees.
Many improvements have been made over the years. In 1979, soccer games were played at Vance Vogel Park near the open area of the picnic grounds, south of the baseball fields.
In 2007, we opened Spring Soccer with 160 players on 18 teams and hosted a round of the TARSA end of season playoffs for U10 girls.
In May 2008 we moved to our new fields at Summerfield Park at 11942 Big Bend Road near Summerfield Elementary. This new $3 million soccer-only facility was 10 years in the making. During our inagural season we hosted Tarsa finals, Region C Cup, ODP Tryouts and the USA League Tournament.
In May 2009 we became the Florida Revolution
Today,we support teams in the USA Competitive League, the TARSA (Tampa Area Recreational Scheduling Association), Florida Suncoast League (Adult competitive) and an in-house adult recreational soccer league. We now have nearly 700 players on more than 65 teams.
