League Information:
K-Ball – This is where football starts for CYFL. Your Kindergartner will have a lot of fun while learning the very basics of football. We will meet one day a week for roughly 1.5 hours. The first few weeks will be some basic drill work and then the last several weeks the teams will get to scrimmage each other. K-Ball is also a great place for those interested in coaching to start out.
Flag ‐ 1st and 2nd grade Flag is where we prepare our kids for 3rd Grade Tackle Football. We will emphasize fundamentals, rules, sportsmanship, terminology, and discipline. Flag teams practice 2-3 days per week and will have games on Sundays.
Beginning, Junior and Senior Tackle ‐ Fundamentals of tackle football will be taught. National Federation of High School rules will govern all play. Some special rules will apply. Practices are held Monday through Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and will last no later than 7:30 p.m. until the first game. After the first game, practice days/times will be announced
Competitive Tackle “The Columbia Colts” – The Columbia Colts will consist of four teams. If you are interested in playing for the Colts then the player must turn 10 years old in 2010 and cannot turn 15 years old in 2010. These teams will be competitive teams that will play teams in other cities and states. There will be approximately twenty‐five (25) players on each team. Those twenty‐five (25) players will be chosen from the group of players that come to the tryouts on July 24th, 2010. Those that are not selected for the Columbia Colts will be put into the recreational tackle divisions of CYFL. National Federation of High School rules will govern all play. The Columbia Colts are a competetive team, and there is not a minimum number of plays required for each player. Practice dates and times will be given to players the first night of practice.
Practice Jerseys ‐ Parents should provide their own practice jerseys. Further information on practice jerseys will be given at draft and first practice.
Team Parents ‐ Team parents are used to help distribute newsletters, assist with photo day, organize team activities, and help the coach out as much as possible. If you are interested, please indicate so to your child’s coach at the first day of practice.
Coaches – There will be no more than four (4) coaches per team. All coaches shall be registered with the National Youth Sports Coaches Association. The NYSCA clinics are provided on line and by the Columbia Youth Football League. The league will pay the fee for those coaches that attend the coaches meeting. If you are interested in being a coach please go to http://www.columbiayouthfootball.com and fill out the coaching application. We will train you. The only experience you need is to love kids and sports. We have a need for those adults who would like to become involved in the Columbia Youth Football program. If you would like to coach, officiate, be a team parent, division coordinator, league commissioner, be a board member, or sponsor a team please contact us at webmaster@columbiayouthfootball.com
