Funnel
You are not receiving the pitch with your glove extended to enable you to cradle the ball into the strike zone. This movement of receiving the ball inward toward the plate does not require a big movement. Any large or quick movements will alert the umpire to what you are trying to do.
Funnel Drill #1
PURPOSE: To ensure that pitches that are strikes remain strikes, and to make strikeouts of pitches that are just out of the strike zone.
SPACE NEEDED: 10 feet or more
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Ball, glove
NO. PERSONS REQUIRED: You and a partner

AREAS OF CONCENTRATION:
1. Receiving position.
2. Target position.
3. Glove extension.
4. Funnel action (cradle) toward strike zone.

EXECUTION:
1. Partner kneels in front of you as you are in receiving position.
2. Working on one pitch at a time, throw the ball to the right of the plate, 10 to 15 throws. Rotate throws to left, down and high, after each has been worked on for a good period of time.
3. Receive the ball out in front and funnel correctly, freezing after each funnel in order to check strike zone and length of movement.
