Throwing 80-20
Your front shoulder is opening up too soon. You should keep your front shoulder closed with your hips pushed to the target with 80 percent of your weight on your front foot and your head still. Your front shoulder should be significantly higher than your back shoulder.
80/20 Drill
PURPOSE: To prevent your front shoulder from opening too soon and ensuring proper extension in front on release.
SPACE NEEDED: 60 feet
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Ball
NO. PERSONS REQUIRED: You and a partner, wall/blanket/net

AREAS OF CONCENTRATION:
1. Weight on balls of feet in throwing stance with front foot closed.
2. 80/20 Weight shift forward in proper throwing objective.
3. Shoulder stays closed until last possible second.

EXECUTION:
1. Start in throwing stance with weight on balls of foot and weight 50-50.
2. Shift weight to 80/20 with hip to target and head still, keeping front shoulder closed and allowing front shoulder to raise significantly higher than the back shoulder.
3. At last possible second, as weight gets over front foot, explode hips, delivering the arm to throw as the body finishes with the throwing-hand foot in front of the glove-hand foot and the glove wrapped behind the back.
4. Perform the towel drill to reinforce proper finish.
