Girls Training League Rules
5/6U Division
1. All team members will play on the field defensively. Infield positions should be normally played and the rest of the team should be in the outfield. Rotate players regularly to give everyone a similar experience.
2. One half of an inning will consist all of the team members being allowed to bat.
3. There will be no strikeouts or walks. If a player swings at 7 pitches without hitting a fair ball or is reluctant to swing at a pitch, a coach will assist that child in putting the ball in play by helping the child swing or by hitting from a tee. Coaches are strongly encouraged to follow this rule in order to move the game along quickly.
4. No leading off or base stealing will be permitted. Base runners will advance only after the ball is hit.
5. A batter hit by a pitch will not be awarded first base, since only the coach pitches to their own team or the pitching machine is being used.
6. Any batter that throws a bat which strikes the catcher or allows the bat to fly more that a reasonable distance, will be immediately called out and instructed as to why they were called out.
7. All batters and on-deck batters must wear a batting helmet. If helmets are available, the runners should wear them.
8. A ball hit to the outfield will remain in play until it is returned to the infield. Once the ball is touched by an infielder and no runner may advance further.
9. A ball overthrown out of play from the outfield that cannot be retrieved without leaving the playing field is a dead ball and all runners will be awarded an additional base.
10. A game will be no longer than one hour in duration regardless of the number of innings played.
11. The pitching distance will be twenty-five feet and the bases will be set at forty feet.
12. If you would like to use the pitching machine, you must put it out and return it when you are finished. It is located in the concession stand between fields six and seven. All other situations will be subject to official softball rules and hopefully governed by common sense.
